Good and Bad Experience Onboard

Good and Bad Experience Onboard

I remembered when i first joined onboard MV Bahtera Hadar . All of the crew welcome me warmly . As I know I am the only Deck Cadet onboard that vessel . The Second Mate introduced to me all of the ship crew and the work that i have to do during my sea time . Apart from being taught to do chart correction , he also teach me to do all the paperwork . As it was my first time doing this kind of stuff , sometime i messed up the paper work . It got me scolded by him .

During mooring operation , i was stationed with Bosun at the forecastle . I learned new things from him that I've never learned before during my junior time at ALAM. His style was more efficient and fast . But there was a time when we were called to alongside to the rig , our mooring rope parted due to heavy weather . Luckily both of us were not at the snap back zone that time . Then the bridge ordered us to make fast a new mooring line to support the aft Mooring rope .

Furthermore , I've experience various times of bunker operation . There were a lot of coupling that i need to know in order to continue operation with different vessel . At first , it was very hard for me to memorize all the coupling but one of the AB help me a lot . There was one time  , it was night and rainy that time , we were doing bunker with the rig then suddenly the parted n we had to stop the operation to prevent the oil from going into the sea . We found out that the coupling were broken . Luckily we have sparred onboard and we managed to solve the situation .

Moreover , during the first three month , i was stationed at deck to the deck maintenance such as painting , chipping n so on . Bosun taught me how to use the jet chisel n grinder correctly . It was fun and exiting to handle the equipment . There was one time , one of my OS didn't tighten the screw of the grinder . When it is turned on , it almost cut his face luckily he block it with his thick safety gloves.

Last but not least , it was the time all of us were performing solat maghrib together at the bridge . I remembered that we are at anchor at Labuan Port awaiting for further instruction from the charterer. After finished praying , i noticed that the vessel were dragging anchor . It nearly hit the buoy . Capt. ordered the anchor party ready to heave up the anchor to repositioning the vessel . We dropped the anchor far from other vessel to avoid unwanted collision .
